Mould Making
Our technicians can make moulds in both vulcanized rubber, and RTV silicone materials from master patterns that you supply
Differences in mould materials:
Silicone
Silicone cures at low temperature and without great pressure so is ideal for delicate items such as plastics, non castable 3d prints, hand carved waxes.
As silicone is a liquid, it is not suitable for porous surfaces which will soak up the silicone liquid. Items for silicone moulding need to be liquid-proof.
During the process, the item is placed in a vacuum chamber to remove all air pockets from the mould. This can be destructive to some items as air within the item expands and needs to escape.
Vulcanized Rubber
Vulcanizing is a process that puts the master pattern under pressure in a heated press surrounded by rubber material. The heat and pressure creates a tougher, longer lasting mould but the process makes it best for durable items like finished castings, soldered metal.
If in doubt, contact our casting team who will be able to advise the suitability of your pattern for mould making.
Mould Storage
Moulds can be stored with us to make re-ordering of castings quick and easy, or returned to you for your own safe keeping.
Stored moulds will be assigned a number assigned to your customer code, to use when reordering castings from us,
